HELP: replaced defrost thermostat but still getting warmer

Any ideas? I replaced with wrong part number on the defrost thermostat but from what I have read thus far, it appears that not a huge deal.

Freezer is still melting the ice and fridge is getting warmer which were the original symptoms.

Is there anything I can check?
Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance..
Jeff

The part number of the thermostat should have been WR50X10068. If that isn’t the part number you replaced look on the thermostat and if it is the correct part it will say L140-30. If not it is a big deal on this refrigerator. Other refrigerators I would say it isn’t a big deal but not this one.

If you replaced the thermostat I assume you had a defrost problem. If this is the case the entire freezer coil will become clogged with frost. The defrost heater and the thermistor are to two most common causes for this type of problem on this refrigerator. Take a look at this page it will help GE Refrigerator Repair Guide

Thanks for the help.
Interestingly enough, The defrost thermostat did say L140-30 but the other numbers were not the same.

I ended up ordering the correct defrost thermostat and a new defrost heater.

Since their replacement, it appears that all is well (knock on wood).

I did an OHM check on the old defrost heater and it ohmed at 22, the same as the new one.

It’s only been a week so far so I should know if its truly fixed in maybe 1-2 more weeks.

Thanks for taking the time!

Well just about 1.5 weeks later, the freezer/fridge is not defrosting again.
To date, I have replaced the defrost thermostat and the defrost heater.

I order a new mainboard today along with 3 thermistor and will replace those and see if that fixes the issue. I’m sure I could have been a little more methodical about it than the replace all parts approach.

After removing the computer for replacement, it looks like a blown capacitor on it. I will continue to monitor with the new computer in place and keep my fingers crossed that this resolves it once and for all… Never GE for me again!

Is there any type of code reader like for vehicles for refrigerators? It seems that if you have a computer that you should be able to diagnose via a reader but that does not seem to be the case. Instead its just a matter of continuing to replace parts and OHM readings.

Thanks in advance.
