I have a side by side with freezer on the bottom. The freezer works with no ice build up. The frige is not cold except for the fruit/veggie and meat tray. When I open the left side door, the slim retractable door feels very warm. HELP!
Remove the front grille and back cover. Clean the condenser coils.

Nutn,
Not to worry about the warm panel, that’s a normal occurrence, it’s warm, to eliminate the condensation that would develop on the panel.
Now the important thing(s)
You checked the back wall of the freezer compartment, and there is no frost, snow or ice and the freezer temperature is fine, correct ?
Can you hear, see, or feel the evaporator fan running in the freezer compartment ?
You most likely have an auto damper that has stuck shut, maybe iced over, something like that.
Your damper assembly is located inside the housing, on the back wall of the fresh food compartment, behind the lower louvred panel.
Once you have the panel off, you can actually remove the assembly( a couple of screws) and test the damper assembly, to see if it opens and closes (cold closes and heat opens the flapper in the assembly).
You’ll know where to go from there, I’m pretty sure, anyway.
Good Luck,
I do have ice build up behind the trays. Can hear fan.
If you have ice, frost, or snow on the back wall of the freezer compartment,
The most likely situation is, A Defrost Problem …
You’ll need to remove all the drawers and racks, and tracks, in the freezer compartment,
Then remove the metal back panel and check the defrost heater for an open circuit, the defrost thermostat for a closed circuit, when cold, open above 45 dgrs.
Then, if all that checks OK, we’ll need to go up into the control panel and circuit test the defrost timer in the fresh food control panel assembly.
You do have a multi meter, so we can check circuits ?
Thanks,
Have removed the panel and seeing lots of ice on the condenser. Should it have ice?
Not ice…lots of frost covering up evaporator coil Part Number: AP4009525… that mean the defrost timer or defrost heater is bad, I can’t seem to locate the defrost timer on the diagram, if you know the part # greatly appreciated ..
Nutn,
Sorry about that,
I sort of mis spoke, you don’t have a defrost timer,
You have an electronic control board.
It’s all one piece and located in the box with the digital display.
You also have a defrost thermostat, it’s located on the evaporator coil, and is clipped on to the tubing.
There should be a tech sheet, located behind the front grille kick panel, in a bag attached to the bottom (top) between the condenser coil and freezer bottom panel, or attached to the inside of the kick plate.
You’ll actually be able to activate all the components, and determine which component is malfunctioning or at least isolate the system where the malfunction is.
I’m pretty sure you can handle it from there, but, drop us a line if you need to.
Good Luck,
Thank you for your help, Joe! Cleared all the ice/frost/snow and so far so good.
Nutn,
Did you check and find the Tech Sheet, and run the tests ?
If, we had something weird(door ajar, too much in freezer/fridge, etc),something like that, you’ll be OK.
Otherwise, you’ll be all frosted up, again in a few days, check the back wall again in 3 to 5 days, to be safe.
