I need to replace the heating element in my Whirlpool dishwasher. From the diagrams it looks like it just pushes down into the body.. Is that correct or is there screws that hold it in place. Can I remove it without taking the unit from the cabinet?

Sure if you have long flexible arms possibly…Are you sure it’s the heat element? have you ohmed out the element itself…Have you tested the thermostats that are in the same circuitry as the element…have you taken an amperage reading while it’s in heated cycle?..if you know for a fact it is the element replace it with a new one and make sure you place the washers in the correct manner they come out and don’t overtighten and strip the terminal nuts…test and check for leaks…In all honesty it’s best taking the unit out gives you easy access and also you can test it out of the cabinet and know for a fact you have no leaks with a better view of it otherwise you may end up replacing subflooring or cabinets with a slow leak…also if you do take it out of the cabinet make sure when you reinstall it’s level side to side and front to back if you don’t you may have leaks later on as well..Good luck
The element is broken into. Are there screws that hold it in place underneath? I didn’t see how they connect.
there not screws there large plastic terminal nuts about 2-3" long usually white in color…just follow the heater wires to the back of the unit you’ll see 2 connectors hanging down at the same point of where the element goes through the bottom…

Personally I am not a big fan of flipping units over.
You should be able to get to the nuts from the back of the unit.
Also depending how your unit is hooked up you may not have to disconnect things if there is enough slack in the lines so you can pull it far enough forward.
