my freezer part of my refrigerator is not keeping it cold enough to freeze water in a ice tray.i took the back panel off in the freezer compartment and there is ice on the coils and i defrost it with a hair dryer to get the ice off the coils but when i plug it back up the same thing keeps happening the coils get ice on them.what could be my problem and how do i fix it

The question is how much ice?
It is normal for the evaporator coils to get frost on them.
This is the moisture in the air condensing on them.
For it to be a defrost problem the evaporator coils must be iced/frosted over to the point where the evaporator/freezer fan cannot pull air through them to cool it.
This usually takes a minimum of a couple days but depends on how often the doors are opened and the humidity in the house.
Is the compressor running all the time.
You can usually hear it but it should also be warm and you should be able to feel it vibrating.
A compressor that runs continuously is another indication of a defrost problem. It may stop for half an hour or so when a defrost cycle occurs but this does not mean that the coils actually defrosted.
If the compressor is cycling then odds are that it is a thermostat problem.
