Grinding noise on Cabrio Dryer

There was a loud squealing noise coming from my 29" Cabrio Dryer. I replaced the belt and now there is a loud grinding noise. I have ordered a new Idler Pulley. Hopefully that will fix the problem. Any other suggestions?

Make sure the drum and the belt installed properly. The instructions are attached.

Thank you for the diagram. I will update you tomorrow after I replace the idler. The diagram helps a lot.

It would be very rare for the idler pulley to be causing your noise at that age. You may want to just open it up and see if the side of the cabinet is pressed in and rubbing against the side of the drum. especially if you heat a rhythmic tap with the grinding about every second (drum seam) If you are lucky and something is pressing against the side of the dryer or it just got pressed in you can just bend it back and your good to go.

Now it sounds like a bearing is bad. The is a constant squeak, but not a real high pitched squeal, which prompted me to replace the belt and pulley. Also the grinding noise is not occuring anymore.

Double check all moving parts, especially drum support rollers. It might need some lubrication.

If you do lubricate the rollers use some powdered graphite. you can usually find some near the keys and locks in any hardware store. grease and other lubricants tent to attract and hold lint which can build up and cause more problems.

The back of the belt was rubbing on the pulley. I corrected the problem and the dryer is working great. Thanks for your help! Now on to my Maytag Refrig to replace the water valves and ice maker.

I had a constant grinding noise on our Cabrio dryer. It ended up being the idler pulley as the belt is threaded through it and the barings on the pulley failed. This was after about six years of use. Easy fix and re-assemble.
