Hi I have a frigidaire gallery model number glws1649as4 and I have taken the screws out of the back then out of the bottom so I could try to take the belt off and get a new one. I cant seem to get any of the panels off to get to anything! I put all teh screws back in until I can figure this out…Help!!
Hi Robyn
I think you need to attack this baby from the top and front, and you also need a service manual.
Here it is.

Let us know how it goes and if you need more info.
good luck
Ok I have the top off but cant seem to figure out how to get the front off. Someone told me to lean it against a wall and pull down on the front until it disengages and slides off…can I lay it down to do this?
There should be two screws at the bottom of the front panel, take them out and the panel should drop down and come off.
Ok i just got the front panel off. The belt looks fine from what I can tell. I cant figure out how to take it off. But its all in one piece. any ideas?
And I just want to add…it tells how to get the belt off…when it says turn off Im assuming you turn it back towards you correct? But it doesnt explain how to get the new one on?
Disconnect or push in the idler spring and roll or turn the new belt on.
sorry to be such a pest. What about if the belt looks good? Could the problem be something else? Or do I want to go ahead and change it?
You have not told us what the problem is and why you felt you had to replace the belt.
If you can give us a good description of what the washer is doing or not doing then we can probably give you some suggestions.
thanks
Well it was whining when it had always been normal…cant remember what else…its been out for 2 months now. I thought I may leave the front off tomorrow and plug it in and turn it on and see exactly what I hear. I do know it would feel up normally I want to say it start when the agitator started moving. I can let u know more tomorrow.
Great, that’s the way we diagnose noises, we take off the front and try to listen to where it is coming from.
Ok…I think I narrowed it down to the transmission if thats the thing that right below the agitator. Is it supposed to move at all? Because its not. I had it on one cycle of spin while the plumber was here to install my water heater and he even got down to look at it and he accidently touched where the motor is and said it was hot. For that short of cycle only once should it have been hot at all?
It sounds like your transmission is in the process of failing. Wityh the power off see how easily the pulley turns. If it is hard to turn then the transmission is likely the problem, and unfortunately a new machine is probably in your future.
thats what I kind of figured. I am just going to look for a used one. We had a good used when I was still married and that thing lasted a long time. Thanks anyway for the help! Atleast I learned how to take a washer a part lol.
Check out craigslist and other resale sites for a Whirlpool/Kenmore direct drive washer top loader. Stay away from anything with microprocessor controls!
Good luck with your new machine.
