Brand: General electric Model Number: General electric GDT535PSJ5SS Main Symptom: stopped working What happens & when: It stopped working while ago, but resetting helped, it was working for several days and stopped again. Resetting was helping for couple of months, but it failed yesterday and resetting doesn’t help anymore. I replaced controller by new one and still it’s not working. No lights, no beeps, nothing. Dead.
Do I need different part or new dishwasher?

Which control was replaced and what part number was used? If the machine control at the bottom of the dishwasher is checked while power is supplied, does it have a blinking LED on it? Also, has opening and closing the door a few times gotten the dishwasher to work in the past before it became completely unresponsive?
I have General electric dishwasher, Model: GDT535PSJ5SS, Serial #: RH796952B for eight years.
As far as I remember correctly, problems started in summer last year. Dishwasher stopped working; I assumed that main board is responsible. I removed board, check visually, didn’t see any burning places so reinstalled it checking all connections. Dishwasher started so I assumed that hard reset was required. It worked for several days and stopped again. I disconnected it from power, kept disconnected over night, plugged in next morning and it was working again.
I did it for several months, finally dishwasher stopped and hard resetting doesn’t work anymore.
I purchased new board, replaced mine (GE26501462G502MP00), plugged in and - it didn’t work. Unplugged dishwasher for over night, plugged in next morning and – dishwasher started and it is still operational.
Now, I am not sure if main board replacement solved my problem. Dishwasher is still beeping from time to time. Three beeps 1, 2, 3, when beep 2 has higher tone than beep 1 and 3 higher tone than 2.
What dishwasher is telling me? Interior looks clean to me.
From what I can find on the part number that was used, it does not look like it is a compatible part with your model. The manufacturer’s control WD21X24900C for this model has the manufacturing number GE265D22880031MP00. While the dishwasher is in a standby mode, press and hold the cycle select and the start buttons at the same time for 5 seconds. The LEDs should start flashing (if door is open) or all solidly illuminate (if door is closed) for 10 seconds. After the 10 seconds, does the Start, Heated Dry, Wash Boost, or Clean LED illuminate while the Lock LED is illuminated?
The wire harness in the door can develop a break in the wires, where the wires bend at the hinge section, that are not visible. With the power supply to the dishwasher turned off, test each the wires at connection J402 on the machine control for continuity to the other end at the connection J401 at the user interface for continuity. If the meter probe used at the machine control is secured where it is doesn’t need to be held, the door can be opened and closed while testing the other end. If continuity stops showing on a wire, the door harness has failed and it will cause this failure. If the wires all have continuity no matter how much they are moved, the next step would be disconnecting the wires at connection J804, J704, and J705 securing the machine control so that there is no chance of a short to ground, and applying power to the dishwasher. Does the display start to turn on and indicate an error by flashing lights? If not, it eliminates everything down to only the door harness, user interface, and machine control. If the machine control manufacturer OEM part number WD21X24900C was replaced, it leaves the door harness and the user interface left. If the door harness had continuity no matter what, the user interface would be the likely issue. Here are links to the parts for this model.
Hi William. It is weird. Dishwasher stopped working and disconnecting power for the night and power it up in the morning didn’t work. Even after disconnecting power for couple of minutes and powering back didn’t work.
Until yesterday, Sunday morning. I powered it up, nothing happened, waited 15÷20 minutes and switched power on and off fast several times. (5÷6) and I heard the beep. Dishwasher is ON.
The door was closed all the time since Friday.
Today I make a test you asked for. Only Lock LED is illuminated, nothing else.
It looks to me that both main boards are OK, so why dishwasher stops working from time to time?
A control or wire harness failure would cause this if proper voltage is reaching the appliance. Did the door harness show a point where there was not continuity in one of the wires when testing from end to end?
The outer door panel will have two screws at each side holding the panel to the hinges. If the screws are removed after turning the power supply off, followed by the vent cap on the inner panel of the door when it is opened, the outer door panel will slide down and out off of the inner panel and hinges. The wire door harness will be a 5 wire run going from the main control to the user interface control. If it is not on a connection J402, then it will likely be a 5 pin connector labeled J722.
I was able to remove an disassemble a door and checked continuity of wires. There is only five wires going from main boaerd to user panel. All of them are OK and they are look perfect from visual inspection. During test I bent them several times and continuity was solid all the time.
Since there was not a loss of continuity at the wire harness, this would point to the issue most likely being with the user interface, while the machine control is a least likely possibility (depending on OEM manufacturer number used).
