GE XL44 Safety Valve Assembly Replacement AP2022751/WB19K12

I just bought a GE safety valve and I need help replacing it. I shut off the fuel so far. I don’t know what to do next, and after it’s done, I also don’t know how to reignite the pilot. Thanks!

What was the original problem?

What is the part number of the safety valve you are going to install?

The part number is in the title. The original problem was that the oven wasn’t making heat, so I checked the troubleshoot manual for the oven and it had my exact problem, and the solution was to replace the safety valve assembly.

Pull the range away from the wall so that you can access the back.
Turn off the gas to the range and disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove the oven door.
Remove the racks from inside the oven.
Remove the oven floor and the heat shield.
Loosen the locking screw and remove the thermo-bulb from the standing pilot.
Disconnect the gas line fitting from the standing pilot.
Remove the old gas safety valve from the range, then install the new safety valve in its place.
Connect the gas line to the gas safety valve.
Reassemble the range.

Thanks Gene! I did just that but I still have the same problem  The issue is that when I turn up the temperature on the oven, the pilot gets bigger but the oven burner does not light up. I am really stumped because according to the troubleshoot manual, replacing the safety valve assembly was supposed to fix the problem, and I replaced it according to your instructions, so I really don’t know where I went wrong. Do you have any ideas?

Stefan,

It is very important to properly position the thermo-bulb so it will heated up by the pilot flame when it extends. Another problem can be if the pilot itself is clogged and the pilot flame does not extend enough. Try to heat up the thermo-bulb with a fireplace lighter.

You can use a needle to clean it or just replace the pilot with a new one.

That still didn’t work, and I’m not going to replace the pilot assemby too. I am just going to call an oven repairman because I tried it out for myself and have gotten nowhere. Thanks for your help though!

You are welcome. Keep us posted.
