GE washer timer not advancing

This GE Profile clothes washer won’t advance through the wash cycles. It will fill and wash until I advance the knob to the next click, then it continues on that cycle until I advance it again. I ordered and installed a new timer (AP2045980) but that did not change the problem. I see there is a part labeled “cyc extd kt”. Could this be the problem or is it the other relay? Tks., Gary

It is very hard to diagnose such problem without the wiring diagram. If you do have it and can post it, it might help us to help you.

Thanks for your reply Gene. If I’ve done it correctly, you should see two attachments that will show the wiring diagram and timer settings. I hope this will help you come up with a solution.

I’m sorry for the delay.

Looks like the problem is a bad cycle extension switch. You mentioned it as “cyc extd kt”.

I’m having the same problem but my drawing does not show a [B]“Cycl extd kt”

Some of my trouble shooting…I unpluged the motor and pump and set the timer to agitate. I can hear the timer clicking. I went to eat diner(45 mins) only to find the timer never advanced.

Everything works but timer will not go to the next step

Roland,

Check if there is 120 VAC to the timer motor while the washer is running.

If there is proper voltage, replace the timer.

Ok I get 120v across the timer motor coil and then leg to ground I’m getting 88v on one side and 16v on the other side

I can hear the timer clicking and every now and then a louder than normal click happens every 30 sec right on the nose….almost like its in a bind—

Looks like the solution is to replace the timer.
