Hello, I am new to the forum and have little experience with appliances. I have repaired this washer several times with help from the Internet. My washer is about 16 years old. It overfilled the other day. I messed around with the pressure switch and at one point I could blow into the hose and shut the water off but then that didn’t work the next time. I prematurely ordered another switch and this did not correct the problem. The washer will fill but agitates at the same time even with the new switch. Checked the valves by turning the water to warm to test both and unplugged the power while filling several times. Each time the water immediately shut off. What’s next?
I have a GE washer that was also over filling and have a thread on here with the steps I took to correct it.
The last 2 things I did (after also replacing the fill switch, was to replace the fill tube and I also replaced the tub bumpers that hold the tub in place when agitating as they were pretty worn out but not broken.
Here is the thread I started with everything I did.
I have to go update it now with the last two things that I mentioned here.
I read your thread before posting. Thank you for the input. Mine is overfilling and agitating at the same time even after replacing the pressure switch.
One of the things Eric (fairbanks56) posted about was the fill tube.
Even though it “felt” like the tube sealed snugly on the ends, apparently it did not because of the filling when it was not supposed to.
I’d take his advice and put a new tube on. They are very inexpensive and it most likely was the major reason for mine over flowing.
Good idea, however, when I blow into the tube towards the switch it does not stop the flow of water. I can hear the diaphragm clicking but it’s not working.
The only way the washer can fill and agitate simultaneously is if the timer is bad.

Eric,
When I did the check of blowing into the tube that was still connected to the fill switch, I could also hear a click inside the timer.
I didn’t have the water on filling so it was quiet enough for me to hear that click in the timer.
Briskelton,
With the water off, when you blow into the fill switch do you hear and see the new switch clicking along with another click inside the timer?
You may or may not hear any noise from the timer. When the pressure switch goes to the full position, it removes power to the fill valves and applies power to the drive motor for agitation and to the timer motor so that the timer starts advancing.
Eric
Yes, when I remove the switch and blow into tube I can hear the clicking. So you think the timer is bad?
With washer empty, and you start it, does it immediately start to fill and agitate at the same time? If so, turn off, disconnect terminal 3 (red/wht wire) from the speed select switch inside the control panel (make sure the terminal isn’t touching anything). Turn it back on. Does it now fill without agitating?
Eric
Yes it agitates and fills at same time. I removed the red wire from the speed controller like you mentioned and now it will fill without agitating.

Ouch.
Hate when a timer goes bad. So expensive but compared to a brand new washer not so much.
Briskelton,
If you are deciding whether to buy the timer or a new washing machine, be sure to check with your utility company and see if they have any rebates for new more water efficient models.
Where my mom lives in Ohio they do offer quite a bit of rebates for buying them.
Something else if you plan to buy a new timer.
I needed a major part (expensive) not long ago and when I spoke to the customer service, I mentioned I had seen it new at another online site similar to this one and they matched the price. They won’t match auction sites but will for similar sites as this one. I did have to give them the web site so they could verify that competitor’s price but it took a second and they matched. I love the fast service of this place and they are so helpful that I checked here for price matching before cheating at another site!
New washer it is. Thanks for the help everyone.
