GE Washer Mode switch fault code

Brand:GE Washer
Model Number:GTW335ASN2WW
Main Symptom: mode switch fault
What happens & when:will not spin or agitate

Error Code (if any): mode switch fault
Parts or tests already tried: 6 years old. new motor, speed sensor, capacitor, main board, mode switch (2x), lid lock. after unplugging it will run 1 cycle fine, then the next cycle it faults to mode switch error. i have ran the diagnostic tests on agitate and spin and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I have inspected the wires and connectors, no breaks or pinched wires…Help??

is there a recalibration to the new motor and/or mode switch that I need to do? if so, how do I do that?

Which specific error code fault number or LED display shows up? This can help identify the specific circuit that is being an issue. Also, what part numbers were used with the main control and the mode shifter, and what personality was set when installing the control? While there is not a calibration cycle, running an empty wash cycle should help to act as one.

Fault code 5 (wash and spin lights on). Main board = WH22X38441C, personality was 4 lights to the right (2 left most lights were off), per setup instructions. Mode switch = WH03X30517.

Just to add a little more context, I went through a process to switch new parts and old parts to see if I could identify which part was bad. When I replaced the mode switch a first time, I still had the old main board. I put a new board in and a first new mode switch. Still didn’t work. So I put the old board back in with the second new mode switch. same thing.

Do you think maybe the old board could have shorted out the mode sensor switch itself (mode motor works fine as it spins the cam) on both of the repacement parts?

With the power supply cord unplugged, the main control would need to be accessed. At connection J512, there will be a brown wire at pin 1, a blue wire at pin 4, and a tan wire at pin 5. There will also be a gray wire at pin 4 of connection J511. These wires are going to be used for testing while they are plugged into the control. With a meter set to resistance, test from the brown wire to the blue wire. There should be a resistance between 5K to 6.2K Ohms of resistance. If this checks good, test from the blue wire to the gray wire. It should read 0 Ohms when the shift actuator switch is not pressed. When the shift actuator switch is pressed, the reading should change to a reading larger than 10M Ohms. If the reading measures properly, disconnect the wire connection J511 and test the wires again. The resistance reading should increase from the last one. If it does not, or if readings were not as expected from the beginning, the main harness would be the most likely cause of failure since the control and shift actuator have both been replaced.
