GE vs Whirlpool Washers

I’m confused! On one of the fourms here it says GE does not have a transmission but on my print out the warranty talks about the coverage of the transmission. What gives? Was trying to avoid a washer w/o a transmission drive since one I had for only 2 yrs went out because of the transmission. Was leaning towards Whirlpool.

need to know the model# to be able to tell you, please post

Confused about the mechanics of the GE vs Whirlpool. Which one has a transmission? I’m looking at the GE 6150 or probably the Whirlpool WTW5800S or WTW 5500S; Had a Montgee Wards top of the line many yrs ago that was I think made by GE. I had it only a couple yrs and the transmission went out and would have cost more to fix than raplace. Went for a Matag. This was about 1986 or 87. It’s still working but is leaking oil from the bottom. Had it fixed once but now doing it again so I’m going to replace it but really don’t want to deal with another transmission problem. Bad enough with cars! Had to replace one on my 83 T-Bird and 92 Concorde. I don’t want to deal with it in my washing machine! lol

I would buy a new Whirlpool direct drive. The other Whirlpool washer is the Calypso which has no agitation type tranny. This washer I would avoid, generally a poor design. The other one, the cabriol is not good either, too prone to failure.
