The timer knob on our washer became difficult to engage in a wash cycle and you had to press it very hard to get a random cycle to start. Now this no longer works and the knob just spins uselessly. I am wondering if the problem is with the knob or with the timer? The knob is off-centered as if something has broken, but I’m not sure where to start with the assessment. Any help would be appreciated!
Sorry, but from what you have described it sounds very much like your timer has been damaged, problably nothing you did, it is from old age and constant use.
My father-in-law took the washer apart and discovered that the plastic piece holding the timer in place on the one side with one screw had broken. He shored it up with a piece of metal and put things back together. The knob and timer are now working fine again. Cheap plastic strikes again…
Glad that fixed it, and thanks for updating us!
