The range top burners do not spark although oven and everything else works fine. I obtained a new (unopened package) OEM spark igniter module (same model as original) and replaced it making sure wiring was replaced as it should be. Still no spark at any burner. I have not yet checked for 120V and polarity although wires were not switched around. Thanks for any help.

Yesterday, two days after above, I turned on a burner and there was a loud explosion and the power breaker tripped. I reset the breaker and stove ok again, but upper burners still not sparking. Is something shorting, and if so what ?
G.
In order to provide the most accurate advise I need the complete model number of the range.
XL44 is not a model number.
Gene.
I am having the same problem with a GE XL44.
The model number is JGBP30AEW1AA.
Would love to here what anyone has to say.
Can you be more specific on the problem?
Gene.
Yes, the stove top burners do not light automatically. The ignitor stopped clicking awhile ago forcing us to use matches. I just ordered a new ignitor unit . Hopefully that will solve the problem.
It is a GE XL44 Model JGBP30AEW1AA.
The ignitor is a Kool Lite Harper-Wyman Model 6544G10.
If you have any other suggestions on how I can test that I’m replacing the right part, I would appreciate it.
There is no spark and no clicking sound.
Thanks!
Oh, one other thing. The stove ignition is working fine.
Yes, you were right. Most likely the problem is a bad spark (ignition) module.
- The part number for the spark module in the APP data base is AP2020570
Gene.
Thanks for the confirmation!

Gene, I just replaced the same module in my GE stove top and the burners all light very nicely now. The problem I am having is that there seems to be an intermitant spark to all burners even when the control knobs are all in the “Off” position or when they are in the “ON” positions. The spark seems to be taking place on a regular interval of 3-4 minutes apart but I have not timed it down to the second.
Is this a regular (safety) feature of the ignitor module or is it a problem with the new ignitor? If it’s not normal, can you suggest a fix?
Thanks.
Check if the cook top is properly grounded.
Make sure all burners are grounded and clean from any grease.
Make sure all igniters are not damaged and are in in the correct position in the flame.
Check all igniters wiring for damaged insulation.
Make sure there is no reversed polarity.
Gene.
Thanks, Gene. I had not replaced the machine screws holding the burner “pans” in place because I didn’t want to have to remove them again. I’ve now screwed them in place and it appears to have stopped the malfunction.

Gene, I have a similar problem but at the spark module where the four wires from the burner controls enter, there is also a small metal plate separating 2 of the four control wires. A spark is jumping from one of the control wires on the left of the plate to the plate every 2 second. Do you think that replacing the spark module is a good bet to solve this. Thank you!
tabpilot,
What is the complete model number of the unit?
Gene.
Gene, The model number of the cooktop is JPG336CEV1CC. The spark module is a kool lite 65644G10 which I replaced today but that didn’t solve the problem of the spark going every 30 seconds. Guess I should be more patient. I check the things you mentioned above and it looks OK but will check again. Thanks.
Gene, I wanted to add that the spark doesn’t happen until I put the burner module on. Is this completing a circuit? Thanks.
Which part did you call “burner module”? Can you refer it to the break down diagrams, using a reference number?
Here are the break down diagrams for the GE cooktop Model JGP336CEV1CC
Gene.
Gene, the correct name is the burner head, part number ap2021339. When that part was put on the spark module started going on every 30 seconds.
tabpilot,
You quoted me in your very first post. Did you check all these stuff?
Gene.
Make sure all burners are grounded and clean from any grease.
The burner bowles are clean as well as the buner heads. The parts below the glass level are also clean.
Make sure all igniters are not damaged and are in in the correct position in the flame.
Igniters are in good shape and their position is correct.
Check all igniters wiring for damaged insulation.
The insulation is good. I see some discoloration on the plastic end where it plugs into the igniter.
Make sure there is no reversed polarity.
The wires are in the same position as before and after the problem starting.
I’m not sure what to do at this point. The only thing missing are the paper washers for the screws that hold the burner bowls into the bracket bowl but it has been fine until now. I tuned all the burners on for about 10 minutes and after that the ingniter firing went from 30 seconds to about 5 minutes but today it is back to 30 seconds. I’m not sure if I should by a multimeter and check every wire? Any help is greatly appreciated.
