GE Range JBS07M1BB Oven Cycle light stays on

Brand: GE
Model Number: JBS07M1BB
Main Symptom: Oven Cycle light stays on
What happens & when:

This is a super-basic, contractor-grade electric range in a mobile home. The oven’s broiler (top) element stopped working a month or so ago and I replaced it DIY with an aftermarket (not OEM) element. Now the broiler works, but the Oven Cycle light often stays on (or comes on overnight). The oven doesn’t warm when this happens, and the light will go off when the oven temp dial is pushed a bit past the the OFF position.

It looks like a temperature sensor (thermocouple?) is mounted inside the oven just above the broil element and may have been bumped when the element was replaced, but I don’t recall doing so.

It looks like a replacement thermostat ( WB20K10026 Oven Control Thermostat | Genuine Ge OEM In Stock ) consists of a new temp sensor and oven temp switch… should I go ahead and replace that part, or are there troubleshooting steps I should take first?

As the oven indicator light is coming on, this indicates the contacts in the thermostat are getting to where they are able to connect when they should not. This would be a thermostat failure and would not require testing. WB20K10026 Oven Control Thermostat | Genuine Ge OEM In Stock
