GE Profile Top Load Washer - Permanent LID error after spin cycle

Brand: GE (bought 03/2024)
Model Number: PTW700BPT0DG
Main Symptom: When trying to start, display says LID
What happens & when:

Just before the issue began, during a towel spin cycle, we noticed repeated locking and unlocking (engaging and disengaging) sounds. After that cycle, any new load would fail and display a “LID” error.

I replaced the lid lock and harness, but the issue persisted. I then replaced the main control board. The machine appeared to return to normal, so we ran another towel load. However, during the spin cycle, we again heard the same locking and unlocking sounds, and the unit returned to the “LID” error.

At that point, I noticed two additional issues:

  1. The machine indicated that clothes were still inside even though the towels had already been removed.

  2. Normally, the unit powers on when the lid is opened from a closed state, but it no longer does so.

Overall, it seems like the machine is no longer correctly detecting the lid state.

Error Code (if any): 24, 44, 51, 89, 91
Parts or tests already tried: Lid lock & harness (WH08X37859) and Main Board (WH22X38517)

Hi @Jeffrey_S_APP_Team ,

Thanks for the reply. Why do you believe the issue is with the UI board? Thank you.

ITs a different part numbe than you fave me so i think you may have the wrong board

Its a different part number than the one you gave me. so i think you may have an incorrect board especcially absed on the codes you are getting

I think you have the wring board based on the difference in part numbers

For the Main Control Board, https://www.geapplianceparts.com/store/parts/ModelSectionParts/PTW700BPT0DG/2/0/0/0/TOP_PANEL_&_LID, it says:

No Longer Available
Item has been replaced by

I have not yet replaced the UI Board.

All those errors your getting are for communication errors I’d check your wiring first

can u get into the diagnostics and run a calibration cycle?

What you happen to know what number that is in the Field Service Mode? I’m also doubt it’ll run because of the LID issue.

Follow these detailed steps to recalibrate your washer:

1. Enter Diagnostic Mode

  1. Ensure the washer is plugged in, powered on, and completely empty of clothes and water.

  2. Press and hold the Start/Pause button.

  3. While holding the Start/Pause button, rotate the cycle dial counterclockwise 7 times.

  4. Release the button. You will hear a relay click and all the status lights will begin to flash. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

2. Start Calibration

  1. Once all the lights are blinking, turn the main dial clockwise until the 6th light (usually the Spin or Done light depending on your exact configuration) is illuminated.

  2. Press the Start button.

  3. The washer will run a brief rebalance and test cycle. It will shift and spin the drum slowly to measure the balance and recalibrate its sensors.

  4. Wait for 2 to 3 minutes for the test to finish and the lid to unlock. [1]

3. Exit Service Mode

  1. After the test is complete, turn the dial one click in any direction.

  2. Press and hold the Start/Pause button for 3 seconds.

  3. All the lights will turn off, indicating the washer has successfully exited Service Mode and is ready for normal use.

Do you need further assistance?

Unfortunately, nothing illuminates, only 1-20 on the screen.

I can’t find anything in the manual or GE’s website.

I’m really starting to suspect a fault with either the either the stator and speed sensor ( WH03X30257 Washer Stator And Speed Sensor Assembly With Harness | Genuine Ge OEM In Stock ), the washer mode shifter ( WH03X31937 Washer Mode Shifter | Genuine Ge OEM In Stock ), or the **Washer Accelerometer Vibration Sensor (**WH03X37841 Washer Accelerometer Vibration Sensor | Genuine Ge OEM In Stock)
