My GE Profile Prodigy washer will only wash on Fast/Normal setting, which means that most of our clothes are getting pretty ragged. I couldn’t even figure out how to get to the motor. Any ideas on how to fix this would be appreciated.
If you will post a model number someone may be able to help you, or at least point you towards a service manual.
GE will not release tech data to anyone except GE authorized techs, but this site here

may have a manual for your model. You will have to joint but it is free, as are the downloads.
Youy may also find you can purchase a manual for your machine at a small cost on various sites.
The model number is WNSE4200AWW, but I don’t think that matters much.
And I didn’t explain the problem very well. Like all of the GE washers, the control panel has four “Custom Care Speed” settings: Normal/Fast, Normal/Slow, Gentle/Slow, and Gentle/Fast. Regardless of where we set the dial, the machine operates on Normal/Fast. That is, we can’t get it to run a gentle cycle.
Try replacing the control unit. The fact that the machines operates in the normal/fast mode suggests it is a control unit issue.
