Hello - I have a GE Profile - model jgs968sek1ss - the oven will not light, but I smell gas.
I have replaced the igniter (twice) and the gas safety valve, and the thermostat.
I am told that if the igniter was not getting hot enough, the gas safety valve would not open the valve and release the gas.
However, my igniter (brand new) is glowing and I smell gas (which tells me that it is getting hot enough for the gas safety valve (brand new) to open up and release the gas.
I can hear (and smell) the gas but the gas will not ignite. Once in awhile it will ignite for about a minute, but then goes out.
The holes on the burner don’t appear to be blocked and the broiler works fine.
Any other ideas on what could be causing this? Maybe the gas pressure regulator (although the broiler works fine and so do the top burners on the stove).
Check the burner for cracks or damage. I’ve seen them crack or leak in the wrong place and so they don’t light right and gas goes into the air instead.

I put a new burner on and it worked!! I couldn’t find any visible cracks, but it must have had a leak somewhere.
