I couldn’t believe the amount of debris I found in there - no wonder it wouldn’t drain. Glass, plastic, safety seal from a honey bottle, popsicle plastic (thanks kids). It’s running now! -I know this is an old post, but it took me awhile to find it and it saved me either a costly repair or an unnecessary purchase of a new dishwasher. It took some force, but pulling the sump filter out and cleaning around the sump drain worked for me. Apparently we washed a plastic cup with a sticker on it (UPC code) and that was the root cause of our problems.
Abadfish knows his stuff … and just saved me some serious coin … found broken glass as the root of my issue and now this girl is feeling pret-ty darn good about herself for fixing her own dishwasher .. thanx to him, of course .. 
The help was right on.Mine finally got going when I took out the back flow check valve flap at the base and forced hot water back in through the drain hose with the filter out.

I have a simaler problem. In my case the dishwasher sounds like it is runing? But drying light is flashing and it is beeping?

This is great advice and help. I cleaned out my dishwasher drain and it is working like new. I have been having problem with glassware and silverware not completely cleaned. The drain filter was almost 100% cloaked. It is not easy to remove for routine cleaning. But I am going to do it every six months. I took some pictures to show how to remove the filter.

I had the same problem. I know this an older thread, but it works. I took my dishwasher apart as instructed and cleaned out the sump pump area. Lots of gunk. Now my dishwasher drains as it should. FYI my GE Profile is 9 years old, and I have never taken it, or any dishwasher apart in my life. Thanks.

[FONT=Arial]I had the same problem. The dishwasher would run, and at theend of the cycle there was water still inside the machine. I’m not an applianceexpert, but I just went through some troubleshooting. [/FONT]
[FONT=Arial]Turn the power off, pull the unit out, and disconnect all the hoses. Get some towels because water will start leaking out of the bottom. In my case, I removed all the hoses, including the one that connected to the disposal. I blew through the ends of each hose, and right away I found one hose that was obstructed .This stuff builds up over time, almost like someone’s artery, and once clogged, your best bet is to throw it out, and get a new hose. Its a cheap solution, and is usually the cause.[/FONT]

Very helpful to me also, but I cannot get the plastic liner out of the sump hole, even with squeezing it and pulling with hands and prying with screwdriver. My goal is to get the flat metal screen off the floor of the dishwasher in order to clean the gunk off of it, but the sump liner has a lip that holds down the screen around it.
I have a GE PDW 7880J10SS dish washer. I cannot get the insert off the sump. I tried squeezing from wider sides of the insert, but cannot get it off even after putting a lot of force. Is there something that needs to be undone?

I have a slightly different model, GE PDW 7880G00SS I think. I also had the water clogging issue and could not remove the sump. However you dont really need to remove it. I took a coat hanger and poked a little into the hole to the left of the sump. Then I put back everything and it drain perfectly.
maybe this helps.
But thansk to this post I was able to save 300 bucks for removing a simple clog in the DW.
