GE Monogram not heating

Hi All,
My inlaws have one of these, and I guess it quit working.

Lights and Digital display all work.

There is a little bit of clicking that happens when you initiate the cook cycle, but it stops after a second and then nothing heats, and the tray does not move.

There isn’t any bad sort of smell coming from it.

Also any special tools? (like safety torx etc?) - so besides knowing what to order I’ll need to know how to yank it and pull it apart

Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,

Unplug the microwave and remove the outer case. Check the door switches.

Hi Gene,

Okay, I can do that, but need to know:

  1. will I need a safety Torx (and what size) to open it, or something other than a philips or socket? ( they are an hour away, and don’t see well enough to let me know  )

  2. how to ‘test’ a switch - there appear to be 3 or 4 in there. I’d assume the two bladed switches are Moment Off and conduct when no depressed, but the ones with 3 blades - I don’t know how to approach those. Also, the Light inside the microwave works correctly, so if that eliminates anything I’m all for listening to your advice!

Thanks again! - in the past you have saved me MAJOR money on repairs, and frankly a lot of headaches too - easier to do it myself than call someone sometimes.

Yours,
Dave

Dave,

I know something but not everything.

I have no idea what kind of screws are there.

There are 3 switches. 2 interlock and 1 monitor. Interlock switches are Normally Open and monitor switch is Normally Closed. Very likely the two bladed switches are interlock and three bladed switch is monitor.

Very likely you will see a bad switch without any tests right after you will get there.

Gene.

Thank Gene - I’ll try to get a look at it tonight and figure out what is up with it.

Yours,
Dave
