GE Microwave making LOUD noise

Hi,

our microwave is making a very loud noise after about 10 seconds of being turned on. It still heats and works well otherwise…I am not sure if we should continue using it. What could cause this to happen?

Thanks a gazillion!

Mel

Can you give a description of this sound?

Well…it originates in the back by the fan…vibrates a bit…I think it is the fan making the noise, but i can’t really tell just by looking at it. The noise is a loud deep droning/humming noise. Hope this helps. Thanks for looking.

It could be that fan motor getting louder as it warms up. But I woulde bet thet the Magnetron is the source of your noise. I’ve replaced a LOT of magnetrons on GE M.W.s.
The only way to know for sure is to drop it down, take the external shell off and to run it in order to pinpoint where it’s coming from.
Just remember to never run the MW empty. Make sure you at least have a cup of water in it.
And be wary of the high voltage stuff in there 2000 plus volts will hurt you.

My microwave seems to have the same loud noise. Did you ever find out what was wrong and most importantly is it still okay to use?

Hi, Our seems to be making the same loud noise. Did you ever discover what was wrong with yours and if it is okay to still use it?
