GE Maytag Performa

I have a similar problem with the unit not starting so don’t know if the comments regarding things to check are the same as other models. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi.

Please provide more details and symptoms.

Thank you.

Hello Simon…the dishwasher was working perfectly until one day the start button would not power on the washer. After reading some of the other tips from other posters, I turned off the breaker at the panel that feeds the washer for a couple of moments and then turned the breaker back on. The washer worked but for only one time. It now will not power on even though I reset the breaker again. As of now, it is “dead in the water.” No lights, no power that I can see.

Hi.

First you should check the junction box. Remove the toe panel and take the cover plate off the box.Using the multimeter check for 120v at the power cord.Repair the connection if needed.(Turn the power off first).

If the is no problem in the junction box , move to the door switches.Check for 120v to and out between black and white wires. Bad switch - replace it.

Next check for 120v between BLK and WH at the control board(the door switches closed). If the voltage is present, unplug the ribbon connector from the control panel and clean it with pencil eraser.
Reconnect and power up the unit. If the problem still exists - replace the control panel.

Thanks Simon…I’ll check it out tonight and post the results.
Best Regards,
Dave

Good luck.

I have 120 at the junction box. At the switches, at the exposed metal prongs at the front of the switches facing the inside of the washer I have 106 volts. At the exposed metal prongs at the back of the switches facing to the outside of the washer I have 2 volts. Sounds like I need some new switches? I measured black to white at the front and at the back.

Hi.

Did you check the switches output when there are closed and opened?

Not sure how to do that? It looks like the switches are in an open position until voltage is applied. I checked switches again and now I don’t get any voltage between black and white. I took the switches off the latch and they look good, no burning or pitting and they work when manually manipulated.

I had the latch in backwards when I measured it so that’s why I had no voltage from black to white. I installed it correctly and am still getting 110 from black to white. But I don’t know how to check voltage when the switch is closed since it appears to be open until voltage is applied?

Hi.

Unplug the ribbon connector between the control panel and board. Clean the contacts with pencil eraser and replug it back. Restore the power.

Still doesn’t work - replace the control panel

Do I have to open the box the board is in to do the unplugging?

Hi.

At this point disconnect the flex ribbon from the control board and clean the contacts with the pencil eraser, reconnect and power up the unit.

If the problem is still there - replace the control panel.

Thank you.

Simon.

PS. You can always return unused parts even if they been installed.

I cleaned the ribbon connector and after restoring power I was able to start the washer after pushing hard on the start button for several seconds. Consequently I don’t know if the ribbon cleaning actually did anything. It looks like I will need to purchase a control panel.

Hi.

Sounds like the new control panel.

Post the results. Good luck.
