GE hydrowave washer repair--lesson learned

For owners of GE hydrowave washers who experience “fill and drain only, no agitate and no spin problems,” I have to admit I learned my lesson–check the simplest ones first like a pinched orange line going from the lid switch down to the motor. I spent a bundle on a new lid switch, new motor, new control board and new coil. I could use these as parts for another ge hydrowave washer.

Just wanted to say thank you for sharing your diagnosis and repair with us. It is not seldom when we see a complicated problems end up being simpler than they seemed, so your post was very illuminating and instructive.

You are most welcome. Here is another GE hydrowave problem. Model is WWSE5240GOWW. Owner tore up the motor and inverter and loosened the thermofuse from the winding. Belt and control board also removed. I managed to reassemble it and tested. I checked both lid switch and fuse and they are good. I ohmed the coil and it give some ohms. When plugged and started, washer immediately went into pump/drain mode. LED flashes once a second or so. I felt water was not flowing. I did the error correction and the water seemed to be blocked. Flashes single flashes every second or so. I used known good control board and water will flow and stops. The LED is still giving single flashes like every second or so.

I did not see or hear the motor or tub attempting to turn

I tried stopping washer during fill, then unplug it for 20 seconds, replug and open/close lid about 7 times, LED still gives single flashes but did not improve the situation. What (simple thing) am I missing this time?

There are at least one part in the motor/inverter assembly which can not be self diagnosed what means no error codes will show it. Also, by design, there is no location to check inverter output voltage to the motor.

It’s written in all service manuals for this type of washers: “Do not attempt to remove the inverter cover”, so very likely he did damage something there.

I would just replace the motor/inverter assembly.

After all the prior actions on GE WWSE5240GOWW, the darn thing came to life after repeating the error code and fiddling with the wiring harness. Repeated test run showed it will function ok but LED light is kind of weak and giving single flashes every so often.
