GE Hotpoint washer won't spin

I don’t know the model off hand.. But the washer will fill up with water and won’t agitate…But when you push down on it, then it works. Then you let go it stops..But it drains and spins fine..Thank you

The model number is VBXR1090B0WW.. We was pushing down on the agitator

Hi.

Pull the agitator straight up, take the screw out and remove the coupling of the shaft.
Check if the coupling splines are stripped inside and out.
Check the agitator splines. Replace if needed.
