GE hotpoint dishwasher not finishing drain cycle

Issue: Water left standing in bottom after cycle

Parts or tests already tried: So far I have replaced the drain solenoid, cleaned the filters, confirmed that drain line not plugged, confirmed drain solenoid works, confirmed that it does actually drain. Confirmed that I didn’t lose the filter ball.

Narrative: I removed the bottom cover plate and watched it run a complete cycle. It operates mostly normally. The drain solenoid works, and water drains out when it activates and the pump runs. At the very end of the rinse cycle, the solenoid activates but the pump doesn’t run, and water remains in the bottom of the washer. Is it the timer not activating the pump correctly at the end of the cycle? Edited to add, this little adventure started when the original drain solenoid failed (melted down!). Some part reviews suggest a bad timer can cause that - true?

It is true that a bad timer can cause a drain solenoid to fail if it continually sends voltage to the solenoid, leading to overheating and damage to the coil windings.

Based on what you’ve described, the timer does sound like the most likely culprit—especially since the washer drains normally during the cycle but fails to run the pump at the end of the rinse. You can verify this by testing the drain pump motor for 120 Volts AC when it should be running. If voltage is absent, the timer has failed.
