The agitator is splined onto the trans output shaft. Over time corrosion and buildup can cause the agitator to almost dry weld itself to the trans shaft. I have had them become so stuck that the only way to get them off was to break it and replace it. You can try spraying a strong penetrating oil into the hole where the bolt came out, Let it soak inn for a bit then reapply several times over the course of a few hours to get as much coverage as possible. Then let sit over night then try to remove it. Let me know if you are still having issues

Thanks, Jeffrey. Trying that. Phone support suggested I slide a tie-down-strap, or something similar, underneath and pull up, with some left-right rocking motion. I may need to break the agitator off, which is fine. We seem to have sludge all inside the agitator (that we can see by pulling the fabric softener cup/cap out. We do not use fabric softener, but we are getting “pieces” of seemingly sludge showing up on clothes and in the tub, stuck to the bottom and the agitator after a wash cycle, having already tried numerous times bottles of washing machine cleaner. If I break out the agitator and just replace it completey, will I find some part of the agitator still adhered to the shaft, and if so, would I chisel whatever is left off of the shaft, or what might I expect, so that I may purchcase whatever needed, along with the new agitator to then install?
I’m afraid that sludge may be transmission grease. Is it kind of black or brown and oily? If so I’d really suspect the transmission seal at the top where the shaft comes into the washer to operate the agitator is leaking.
Thanks. Possible for sure. The deposits feel like very small pieces of rubber but they aren’t. They are a sticky flake. Touch them on the fabric and they absorb into the fabric. Wipe them off of the inner tub or agitator with a paper towel and they have a gum-like consistency to them. Not sure if I can attach photos to these replies. ??
That is definitely the grease/oil form the transmission. The top seal of the motor shaft is leaking
Wow. Barely 6 years old. I presume this is NOT an easy field repair, much less a DIY. Repair company quoting over $1,000 to pick up and repair and reinstall - and that was just to remove/clean/replace the agitator. I presume transmission needs to come out to replace the seal? I’m admittedly a light DIY person but too old nor qualified to deal with much more than a belt or agitator (if I was able to remove it). Thoughts?
Yeah its’s a very involved job that basically requires a complete teardown and rebuild of the washer. Plus the transmission ( GE WH49X27322 Laundry Center Washer Transmission Platform Assembly Kit | Genuine OEM Part ) is not serviceable and will need to be replaced as a whole unit
