GE GFC520F Question (URGENT)

URGENT, in laws coming in to town tomorrow. My disposal unit which is as you see from the title a GE GFC520F 1/2hp crapped out on me. I have had some experience with my previous disposal unit and the humming and then checking the blades and then taking the allen wrench to the flywheel and working whatever was stuck free and fixing the issue.

BUT, on this model I see the reset button on the bottom side of the unit I DO NOT see anywhere where there is a place to place an allen wrench to move the flywheel . Any ideas??? The only thing on the bottom I see is where the electrical is housed, I have humming but no disposal working - I’ve checked the blades and so on but nothing. Thanks in advance for your assistance…

You need to get a stick and force the blades to turn

Here’s all you have to do: get your father in-law to put something in the disposal and have him try to run it. (ON"T TELL HIM ITS ALREADY BROKEN)
Then, when everyone hears the hum it makes, say, “What did you do to my disposal? It worked last time I used it!!” Then get the old man to buy you and the wife a new one!!

Got to use your head in these troublesome times!

rluben that’ll work…

It should have the allen wrench hole in the bottom center of the disposer to free the shaft then reset the button. IF not you need to find the hex nut head size that is holding the blade and use the socket wrench whith extension to reach it and turn it to free up the shaft the same way you would from the bottom with allen wrench except this is from the top.

good luck,
fred

Just be carefull not to break the bolt holding the blade. Ge recommends using a wood dowel to force the blades to move. Also Ge disposers do not have the allen nut on the bottom like other disposers do.

I hear a hum but the blades won’t turn. What should I do?

i have the same disposal and the same problem. read your solution and it worked. you saved me a hundred bucks. thanks!
