Brand: GE Model Number:GFW550SSNWW Main Symptom: Not draining, Error code 32, Field Service Mode#12 (pump) nothing happens (tested three times) What happens & when: Washing but not draining, washer stops after washing and few minutes later stops and door unlock, washing ends, this happens in all washing cycles, sometimes door does not unlock. No clog/obstruction at filter or at pump inlet or outlet. Pump has 20 ohm resistance and does not turn freely. Sometimes during wash cycle the timer goes back one minute and sometimes it advance several minutes over few seconds. No kink in drain hose noted.
Error Code (if any):32
Parts or tests already tried: Field Service Mode #12, #14, #13

The error 32 is going to indicate a door lock failure. When the Consumer Fault Code Mode is activated and the first error code appears, does pressing the Start button show another error code? Also, when the drain pump is being activated in the test mode, does the main control send 120 Volts AC when testing at connection J512 from the brown wire at pin 2 to the black wire at pin 3 for Volts AC?
Error code 32 is the only error code showing. I did not test for 120 volts at J512. I did not know how before. Will check to see if 120V at J512 at brown and black wire during the test mode.
If the main control does not send 120 Volts AC to the drain pump during the test mode, the main control would be the likely cause for the error code and the draining failure. If it does send voltage, the drain pump would be the likely cause for the drain failure and some checks would need to be done to see why the error code and cycle behavior are occurring. Let me know what you find and we can go from there.
There is no power during pump test mode (J512) between pin 2 and 3. Likely control board is a problem though I do not see any damage to the board. Could the error code 32 be due to problem with control board? The door lock is opening and closing at appropriate time. Yesterday, when I was testing drain pump on test mode, I can hear the drain pump making intermittent noise.
Since the door lock is operating how it should, and the washer will go through some portions of a cycle, the main control would be the most likely cause of failure. Especially since it is not sending voltage to the drain pump. It can cause the error 32 to occur as well as prevent the drain pump from operating properly.
Looks like the drain pump is issue. If it shows the right resistance, it shouldn’t feel stiff or stuck. If it doesn’t spin freely it won’t move water so the washer stops and throws error.
I changed the door lock, drain pump and control board. I set the personality to 4 by error. Able to enter field service mode to try to change the personality code to 2. Able to get to 17 field service and when I push the start button # 17 turned off and nothing happens. I tried other field service number and the result is the same (machine turned off and test does not occur). If I turn the dial (after waiting for the test to happen) it goes to various wash cycle. After entering the wrong personality code the dial no longer correlate with the type of wash. I now get 91 error code with door and lock LED flashing. There is green light flashing on UI board. Is this the result of entering wrong personality code or damage the UI board when changing the parts? Any solution. I discovered your website after purchasing the part from Amazon.
The error 91 indicates there is a communication issue between the user interface control and the main control. It would be worth double-checking the wire going from the main control connection J615 to the user interface control connection J101. Does a connection seem a little loose or does a wire look like it pinched? The wires could also be tested for continuity from end to end when the power cord is unplugged to make sure there is not a break in a wire. If the wire checks good, here is a voltage check that can be done. At the main control connection J615, test from the black wire (with red probe) to the red wire (with black probe) with the multimeter set to Volts DC. There should be 13.5 Volts DC. While keeping the black meter probe on the red wire, use the red probe to test the yellow wire and the blue wire. If I am correct, there should be an outgoing voltage at the yellow wire, and there should be a return voltage at the blue wire. The yellow wire and the blue wire are the communication wires, with yellow being transmission and blue being return. Let me know what you find.
I was able to change Personality Code. In the service mode pressing start button (according to instruction) goes blank on my washer but pressing pause button enter the testing mode. So I changed the personality code for the washer and everything is working fine. It seems error code 91 is an old code and not affecting the washer. You Tube has instruction on resetting error code on top load washer but not on front load washer. I was going to test the terminal you suggested last night but because of green light on UI circuit board decided not to test the terminal as it is a good indication that there is power to UI circuit board.
I just need to (I think) see how to wipe out old error code to see if error code 91 is still active. Would appreciate if you have instruction on how to do that on GE front load washer. Thanks again for all your help.
If you go into service mode and rotate the cycle knob clockwise until the display shows 16, you should be able to press start to clear all F error codes. This tech sheet is for your model and shows test 16 as the way to clear the codes out.
