GE (ES Series) Side by Side Fridge and Freezer are Hot

Freezer got warm 5 days ago, I had to clean the evaporator as it was covered in dust. When I did that the freezer started working again. Then we had a power outtage and 2 days later both the fridge and freezer went from cold to HOT. No clicking noises. Compressor is running. Compressor overload switch does not have a rattle when removed. I the unit back in and it seems to be working again. Question is, what would have caused it to go hot? Should I replace the control board?

Hi.

At this point we don’t know what happened exactly. So replacing of any parts with out proper diagnostics seems to me a bit irrational.

Thank you.

Simon.

Simon, good point. What would be the proper diagnostics?

First of all the fridge should be acting up. Only then you can trouble shoot.
Check if the both fans are running, if compressor is running. If everything works open the evaporator and check how the coils frosted.

Thank you. Post the results.

Simon.

Will do. The freezer thawed yesterday, while I was at work, but then it froze again.. Odd…

Simon,

The freezer is melting again. The fan seems to be running, the coils are not frosted at all. Fridge still seems OK. HELP...

Hi.

Looks like there is a sealed system problem. You need to call a pro.

Thank you.

Simon.
