I have a GE dryer that squeaks loudly with wet clothes and then gradually lessens as the clothes dry. This has been going on for a couple of months, but has worsened. I’m wondering if it is the rear bearing…and as long as I need to make the repair, should I replace any other parts along with it? Thank you..
Yes it is probably the rear bearing.
It would be best to take it apart and check the bearing for wear etc.
A short term fix would be to remove the rear access cover and put a few drops of a good oil on the bearing and then manually rotate the drum to work the oil into the bearing. Do not go crazy with the amount of oil and also do not use WD-40 as that will not last very long.
When you do open it up check the idler wheel, the belt, the front glides, the drum seals, other internal seals etc.
You might as well give it an overhaul since you have it all apart.
