GE - Dryer - GTD45EASJ2WS - belt keeps breaking

Brand:GE
**Model Number:**GTD45EASJ2WS
Main Symptom:Belt keeps breaking
What happens & when:

Dryer stopped spinning. Replaced belt.

Dryer stopped spinning. replaced belt. Worked ok for 2 weeks, but got louder each day

Dryer stopped spinning again. replaced belt and slides. Worked ok for 3 week, but is now louder, and sounds like it will break again. Takes longer to dry as well.

I see the videos for idler wheel, and motor pulley(have to buy the whole motor for this model?) but am looking to see if it may be something else.

Is the drum somehow moving from center, either in the front bearing, or off the shaft in the back, putting strain on the belt?

The noise is an out-of-round sound louder at half spin. Not a squeel but a rubbing sound.

Would like to but the right part(s) this time.

I’d suspect the shaft assembly AP4422015 might be wearing out and dragging. Is it more difficult than normal to spin the drum by hand?

yes, relatively difficult.

Would this fray the belt? they were all shredded when i replaced them.

Also, getting the belt onto the motor pulley was VERY difficult both times. Nothing like shown in the video. Is that a clue?

Thanks. Can I ask where I am looking in the dryer for these pics? Looks like the rear end of the drum where the Rory’s ^ shaft theory is coming from?

What bigbuck1 is referring to will be at the motor itself. The motor being positioned incorrectly might cause some problems getting the belt on as well. If you take the belt off the pulley is the drum still hard to rotate by hand?

thanks-will have to disassemble and report back in a few days. I do remember pushing hard on the drum to get it set in, so maybe it caused the no-gap scenario.
