Whether this cooktop is worth saving is ultimately a judgment call based on the cost of repair versus the cost of replacement. I can help by providing estimated part costs, testing procedures, and guidance for removing and replacing components.

For the issue you’re describing on your GE Profile PGP5030SJ1SS, I believe the most likely failure is the **cooktop power supply module (**WB27X24011 Cooktop Power Supply Control Board | Genuine Ge OEM In Stock). Power supply boards are responsible for supplying power to the cooktop’s electronic components and are a common cause of display and control-related issues.

There is also a cooktop relay board ( WB27X24010 Cooktop Control Relay Board | Genuine Ge OEM In Stock ) , but I consider that less likely in this case since its primary function is controlling the operation of the surface elements (burners).

If you’d like to continue troubleshooting, I can help you perform some tests to narrow down the failure before purchasing any parts.

I hope this information helps you decide how you’d like to proceed. As always, feel free to reach out to us anytime—we’re happy to help.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes please, let me know how can I know if simply replacing the cooktop power supply control board would fix the issue. Let me know what tests I need to perform.

Unfortunately, if the controls are not responding, we won’t be able to enter diagnostic mode.

Have you verified that the unit is receiving power by checking the junction/terminal block where the house wiring connects to the cooktop?

When looking at the terminal block, each of the two outer terminals (L1 and L2) should measure approximately 120 VAC to ground. Measuring across L1 and L2 should give you approximately 240 VAC.

Have you opened the cooktop? There should be a folded tech sheet taped somewhere inside the burner box. That sheet should include the wiring diagram. I was unable to locate a wiring diagram for this model, but you should find terminals on the control board labeled L1 and L2.

Check voltage from L1 to ground and from L2 to ground; each should read about 120 VAC. Then measure across L1 and L2; you should see approximately 240 VAC. If those readings are correct, that verifies the control board is receiving proper power.

If the board is getting the correct voltage and the controls remain unresponsive, the control board will need to be replaced. If power is missing on either leg at the board, there is a wiring or power supply issue that will need to be traced and corrected.
