The other night, while letting the oven heat up, the baking element started to shoot out sparks. I quickly turned it off. I went and bought a new baking element (#GEWB33X5082), but I can’t seem to get it to work. I’m pretty confident that I’ve installed it correctly. The broiler still works, but the baking element just won’t heat up. Any ideas on what could be wrong?
I can’t pull up the model number or the part number you posted. Is this an US model?

I found a JBS03 model it uses this element Element bake

Ah! It does have ‘J’ in front of it. I didn’t even notice that!
Also, the element you suggested is the one I used (the Manufacturer’s # matches).
You might have burnt off a wire from the broil element or a bad oven selector switch WB22X5134
The element WB44X5082 has 2 prongs on it. Facing the oven there is a right and left prong which takes a wire(s) from the oven to be attached.
There are 2 black and 1 yellow. I would guess the yellow is ground.
Looking into the oven which side does the 2 black wire attach? Do they attach together on the right prong (looking into the oven) and the yellow to the left side (looking into the oven).
Thanks

The yellow wire is not ground. The element is not polarity sensitive, can be wired either way.
Dear Richappy:
So 1 black wire on one side and 1 black wire on the other side. Yellow wire goes nowhere?
I was told this will cause a short but I will do it this way. If you recommend different will wait for your response.
Steve
NO both black wires go together, the other black wire is daisy chained to the upper broil element, the other wire to the other terminal.

I am not sure we are taking Apples to Apples.
There are 3 wire coming out of the rectangular opening inside the oven in the back. 2 black and 1 yellow.
Setting the element in place the 2 black wires attach to the right side by a screw and the yellow one attaches to the left side.
Am I correct?
I can send an image if we use regular email.

I noticed other people on the forum are having the same issue.
