Gas Oven Valve

My gas oven stopped working. The burners still work. I looked through the posts, and think I’ve determined it is the valve/regulator. When I turn on the oven for either bake or broil, the ignitor glows bright orange but the oven does not fire up.

I looked under the oven, and have found the valve/regulator. Here’s a link to the part -KGRC608LSS0 KitchenAid Range Parts & Free Repair Help - AppliancePartsPros. The part is about $115

How do I know this is the problem prior to ordering the part? It’s pretty expensive, so I don’t want to order it if it’s not the problem.

Any suggestions on how to correctly diagnose?

How did you ‘determine’ that? What tests were performed?

That doesn’t necessarily mean it is good. Ignitors can glow and still be defective.

The oven valve can not usually be directly tested except for the case of the oven ignitor not glowing at all (in which case it would have infinite resistance). If the ignitor IS glowing, only an amperage test on the ignitor circuit will suggest whether the valve may be responsible for no gas flowing.

thanks. I checked the current draw on the oven ignititor and sure enough its low, about 1/2 amp different from the broiler which never gets used.

Think of it as a “weak vacuum tube” the tube heater is weak.
