Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: 7MLGR5620MQ2
Main Symptom: Shuts off
**What happens & when: Dryer shuts off after 10min or so, just clicks when push start button. Checked thermal cut off in rear and has continuity. Clicking noise coming from tube where heat is.
Error Code (if any):
Parts or tests already tried: Replaced motor

Is it doing this on all cycles? If you try running the dryer on a no heat or air dry does it still quit after about 10 minutes?
It runs fine on no heat cycle.
You need to be more clear. Does motor turn drum and run on all cycles and after 10 minutes drum is still turning ,but you have no heat? Of coarse on air dry you would not have heat!
If the dryer isn’t shutting down after running for 10 minutes on a no heat cycle but does when running any heated cycle, that sounds like the motor is overheating due to vent blockage or airflow issues. On an electric dryer I would suggest disconnecting the dryer from the vent and running it on a heated cycle to see if the issue goes away just to verify, but this being gas you don’t want to do that because of the fumes.
When dryer is turned on it runs fine. Motor turns drum and heat works fine. After 10-15 min the dryer shuts off completely. No motor operation turning the drum and of course no heat. When trying to restart the dryer you can hear a clicking noise which sounds like some kind of relay. I am helping friend and they had a "tech already changed the motor. When I took unit apart the bottom wheels were wore down and the drum was riding on back lip. I replaced wheels and new belt. When unit shut down and would not start I checked continuity at thermal cut off on back of outlet tube and was good. And of course the fuse was good also. I am a car tech and not familiar with the workings of the dryer. I dont have a schematic and not sure if there is some sort of a flow chart that helps diagnose this. Appears to be a basic dryer. No circuit boards etc..
If it was overheating would the thermal cut off be open? I checked with meter and has continuity when unit quit running.
Not necessarily, there is an overload actually built into the motor.
Here is your wiring diagram. You have a gas dryer so the bottom would be your schematic!https://s3.amazonaws.com/sm-backend-production-attachments/wiringsheet-8528187.pdf
Thank you for schematic. I am thinking I should take that back tube off to make sure its clean. I just thought that cut off would have been open if that was the issue. I will post updates on final solution
Okay so I am working on it now. Remove the back and cleaned exhaust tube real good. No difference. Ran for 17 min and shut down. I have the back off and I can see and hear when the gas is cycling. Checked both the thermostat and high limit and have continuity in both. The timer is clicking away but same when I push start button just clicks. Loud clicking like stater solenoid on car. Click coming from tube with burner in it
Just was able to start again. Took 15 min to cool down and start again. Now that I have the schematic is there something I can check. I have a 15 min window for testing. I can’t imagine it’s the motor since it’s been changed and doesn’t happen when it’s on air dry
I wonder when they replace the motor they used a aftermarket motor. Take a picture of the motor they put in and post it!.Also you could take drum out and with the front panel set just right and plug in door switch and put on a no heat setting and run dryer and if you have a amp meter check the amperage.i know you said it runs find in the no heat setting, but sound like you have a motor problem.Check motor connections. This is a basic dryer and simplest on the market!
