If you turn off the power to the range at the breaker or by unplugging the power cord, and access the console, you can test the infinite switch for continuity to determine whether the switch or the element has failed.

Here’s how to check it:

  1. Disconnect the brown wire from terminal H2.

  2. Turn the switch to the ON position.

  3. Test for continuity between:

    • L2 and H2

    • L1 and H1

    • L1 and P

If no continuity is found at any of those points, the switch has failed.
If you do have continuity at all three points, then the heating element is the part that’s failed.
