I know there are a lot of treads on this issue but I don’t know what to do. I had this issue for months, found out that my defrost heater wasn’t working and replaced it (it heats now) but frost/ice keeps building up, preventing the fridge/freezer to cool properly.
What could be the issue? Freezer fan is working well, coils at the bottom of the fridge are not dirty, drain isn’t clogged, door seal is not damaged, air vents are free of any debris and defrost timer seems to be working (heater will turn on every 8 hours for about 15 minutes) .
Could it be the thermostat (white wire)? It seems to go behind the panel so is it even something I could replace myself?
You will want to check to see what the evaporator coil looks like. If the picture is showing what they look like when the unit is running and there is no frost except what is at the top right then this will be a sealed system issue. With a sealed system issue, you will need to have service out to repair the unit.
Thank you for your answer. I took the picture after defrosting and letting the fridge running for a few hours, but if I give it a few days, the whole surface will get even with frost/ice (it was like this too before I swapped the eveporator). Unfortunately it made no difference apart of actually heating up. Could it be an improper installation?
I checked again the coils at the bottom of the fridge and they look clean, and the fan next to it is working as expected
If you don’t mind me asking. How did you defrost the coils. Did you defrost them via hair dryer, just letting it thaw by unplugging it or a forced defrost?
Ok so in this case since the heater has already been replaced and it has the defrost thermostat/thermistor on it then the control board will be the issue.
So I checked and I get no readings for the termostat (but i’m not sure I’m testing this correctly). Another symptom I found out today is I brought down the freezer temp at 46F and the fan stops working, certainly a sensor issue like you suggested.
How do I even change it? There is so little documentation on my specific fridge and almost no youtube videos.
