Hi,
Thank you for your attention and time.
The washer tries to spin but instead makes a loud grinding/whirring noise as it attempts to accelerate. It then slows, stops completely, shuts off. It comes back on to try again. It will spin very small loads.
I checked the belt and drainage, both good. The transmission moves by hand. The drum(?) spins one direction easily and locks the other direction.
I caught the error on this video showing the end of an agitation, draining, then the attempt to spin. The last ~20 seconds of the video capture the error. The lid switch is manually activated so I could film inside.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks again!
Hi.
Does the washer agitates?
Check the motor capacitor. Take the belt off and see if the motor will run without it.Make sure the transmission pulley turns in both directions.
If everything checks OK - replace the motor

Yes it agitates. I don’t know how to test the capacitor. The assembled transmission spins only one way, the pulley spins both ways with no belt. Yes the motor turns in the spin cycle with the belt disconnected.
Thanks.
Take the capacitor to the appliance store or to the automotive shop.
Most likely it’s the motor. You can return any parts that you do not need back to APP even if they been installed.

Ok I tested the capacitor with my multimeter; it seems to work. I will proceed with a motor replacement and report back. Thank you.
I changed the motor and the machine works well again. Thank you for your diagnosis.
