I noticed the smell of burning electronics this morning about 20 min into the wash cycle. About 10 minutes later I heard a ‘shorting’ sound. After unplugging the unit, I took off the front access panel but did not note any water leakage or apparent melting. I plugged the unit back in and then restarted the cycle. It ran well for about 10 min and then flipped the breaker. I unplugged the unit again and opened the cover to its j-box and found that the neutral had melted through the wire nut and eventually grounded out on the jbox. The washer is wired to an appliance cord and plugged into a dedicated, grounded outlet on a separate circuit. Mainly, I want to know if there is any reason why I shouldn’t cut out the damaged wiring and reconnect. Think this is a case of a loose connection or something wrong with the unit itself?
