Brand:frigidaire Model Number:fghb2868td6 Main Symptom: fridge won’t cool What happens & when: when the doors are closed the evaporator fan will turn on high then go straight to low speed
Error Code (if any): sy ef
Parts or tests already tried: ran diagnostics test for evap fan, worked on high and low during test
SY EF is the evap fan error. Fan works fine in diagnostics so the fan motor is good. Problem is most likely the fresh food thermistor. When that thermistor goes bad it sends wrong temp readings to the board, and the board tells the fan to slow down because it thinks the fridge is already cold enough. That’s why it goes to high then drops right to low.
To test it, pull the thermistor out and disconnect it. Set your meter to ohms. At room temp around 77°F it should read close to 10,000 ohms. If you put it in a glass of ice water it should go up to around 32,000 ohms. If the reading is way off, open, shorted, or doesn’t change, it’s bad. Thermistor for your model is the 240597220. Cheap part, easy swap.
If the thermistor tests good, then it could be the main control board not reading the signal right or not sending the correct voltage to the fan. In that case you need the 5304510307. Test the thermistor first though, 9 times out of 10 that’s the issue on these. Let me know how it goes.
I tested the thermistor and it was 10k at room temp and 26k in ice water. What does the main control board 5304510307 do? I was reading somewhere that that was the one that needed to be replaced. I just dont want to spend anymore than I need to to get it going again.
Do you also have a problem with food freezing inside the bottom drawer? If yes, the air tower kit is the fix. Grab the 5303918782 and that will take care of it. If no freezing in the drawer, run the test for the air damper at the bottom of the air tower. If it opens then the main PCB is most likely the problem. For the board use the 5304510307. Let me know what you find.
