Freezer Unit Glows Red Hot and Sizzles

My daughter has this side by side refrigerator freezer and called reporting a hissing sound from the freezer side. Near the bottom of the freezer looking in from the freezer, she said she could see through some vents a red hot glow with hissing - which I assume to be water dripping. She has never heard or at least noticed this sound before. She said the area was hot. I am not on-site to help so I’ve directed her to turn off the freezer side and run the refrigerator side, assuming there are independent controls. Anyone with any thoughts, is this normal, or a malfunction/fire hazzard? I have yet to pull up the parts diagram to explore what she might be seeing, etc. Advice ASAP welcome! Thanks. Doug

I checked the parts diagram and see a 12 inch glass tube heater element near the bottom and believe that is what she was seeing, a defrost heater cycle … anyone agree? Doug

Hello. What she is seeing is in fact called a defrost cycle,Should happen every 8 to 10 hours. Good Luck

Thank you Gary, it’s difficult not being there to have sorted it out myself, I appreciate the quick help! Doug
