Hello appliance wizards, freezer cold fridge not…I pulled the back freezer panel no excessive frost, no blockage in the bottom vent, (the dial one) freezer fan is blowing good, coils are clean and compressor is hot…there isnt allot of airflow from inside the top fridge…Any ideas:confused:
How the coils in the freezer are covered with frost - partialy or all coils?

nice overall light snow…
Hello,
I am having a similar problem with my GE model # GTS22WCMARBB my freezer works but my fridge doesn’t. I understand how this fridge works it has a 3 speed evap fan to push air into the fridge duct. I replaced the evap fan back in April of this year do to the motor making noise. Now i opened up to where the circuit board is found out where my fan pins are. We are getting voltage about 12.80 - 13.00V but, when I plug the Evap fan in the fan spinns about 2 -3 revolutions and stops , we also tested out the fan and the fan reads good also I saved my old fan the one that was making noise swap that and it does the same thing. Please help do you think it is the circuit board? Wanted to know before I purchase the part.
Thanks,
Jeff
jszczypien,
Check the damper control (#428 on the break down diagram) and the duct air return (# 434 on the break down diagram) for any blockages.

Gene.
ROCK4200,
At the fan motor connector, check for 13VDC from the red to white wire and 8-13VDC from the white to yellow wire.
If the voltage is correct then the fan motor is bad.
If the voltage is wrong then unplug the J-2 connector on the main control board. Check for 13VDC between pins J2-3 and J2-8 8-13VDC between pins J2-3 and J2-4.
If the voltage is wrong replace the main control board.
If the voltage is correct then the problem is a bad wiring harness.
If there is less than 1 K ohm between white to red or white to yellow wires on the evaporator fan motor, the motor is bad and has to be replaced together with the main control board.

Hey Gene, i didn’t see any blockage in the damper…do you think it could be part #257 ? Check the pics of the coil. one was on 7-4 about 15mins with the door open. Check the one from today july9, taken immediately…let me know what you think…

Sorry, i meant #424
The coil looks good. The part with #257 is the defrost timer which has nothing to do with your problem. There is nothing wrong with the defrost system.
There is something wrong with the air flow. Did you check the duct air return? Be sure the damper is wide open.
Gene.
#424 is the temperature control which is has nothing to do with this problem too.
Gene.
I removed the foam nozzle #426 from the wall #428 with no obstruction. Correct me if i’m wrong but if warmer freezer (sliding 428 to the left damper wide open) equals colder fridge what does #424 have to do with the fridge temp. It seems odd that this just failed with no movement of the damper.
Now this getting deep…
If tha freezer temp control is set too high, can that cause the refregerator compartment to be too warm? What is the ideal setting for the freezer and the refer compartments for a Magic Chef model RB193PA?
jszczypien,
The temperature control (#424) does not operate with the damper control. It controls the temperature and operates with the compressor and fans. The damper control operates manually (the left knob on the control panel).
Did you check the duct air return yet?
Gene.
Hi Pat,
Can you be more specific on the problem? What is the complete model number of the refrigerator?
Gene.
Yeah, i checked it back on 7/4 it had some ice in it and removed it but the fridge still never got below 60. Last night, after removing/re-installing and inspecting the foam duct i moved the damper control to “Freezer Warmer” all the way to the left equalling fully open damper and it is colder this morning but i’m curious on how long this will last…
Do not play with these two knobs. Keep the temperatures under control, using a good mercury thermometers. Wait about 24 hours after any adjustment to see the result.
Gene.
Gene, I have a Kenmore bottom freezer refrigerator, model 596.72214200 that has a cold freezer/warm refridgerator and there is frost on the back panel of the freezer. I’m going to tear into it to see if I can diagnose the problem but would really like a break down diagram for reference and can’t seem to find one when I do the model number search. Is there one somewhere you can direct me to? Thanks for all the great advice on this forum.
drydocked,
The defrost timer is located above the light module in the fresh food compartment.
The defrost heater is #15 on the break down diagram and the defrost thermostat is not illustrated.

Our refrigerator, Amana ASD262RHRW, was working fine until something blocked the freezer door open and it froze up completely. The evaporator was frozen solid and even the damper had ice in it. I defrosted it a little and some ice fell in from the freezer side into the damper area. Since it was defroster it worked for about one week then was frozen solid again. This time I defrosted it completely and a week later it was frozen again. I checked the resistance of the defrost heater and it was about 30 ohms so I replaced the defrost time. The compressor and the evaporator fan cycle off and on but the defrost heater does not kick in. Is there any chance that the defrost thermostat is not working (is stuck open)? I thought it the defrost thermostat was open it would never cool down and it does that great until it freezes up and I have to defrost it. Could the ice that fell in the damper between the compartments have damaged the main circuit board, I have no idea where it is located? Thanks in advance.
