Freezer fridge problems Montgomery Ward

Hello,

I am new to the forum. I just wrote out a whole post that disappeared, so hope that I can put it together again! Should have saved it!!

I have a Montgomery Ward Refridgerator with Freezer (freezer above with its own door) and it has not be working right for the past week. The whole fridge measures 33" wide. The temperature of the freezer is at about 20F and the fridge at about 58F. I still have food in the freezer (but not addding more), but the refrigerator is too warm, I realize, so not much is in there.

The fridge was possibly zapped by a lightening strike about eight months ago as icicles started appearing in the freezer soon after the strike, though it continued to run, unlike many other appliances which had to be replaced. Computers, etc.

I live in a rather isolated area, though am about 15 miles from a Sears… I would appreciate any help and advice as to what could be wrong/should I get a refrigeration expert in to look at it and repair it/should I replace it.

There is only one refrigeration company in my very small town.

Any help would be very gratefully appreciated.

And thank you!

Em

Hi Em,

I’m not sure what kind of cooling the condenser in your fridge has: static or dynamic. Also, are the condenser coils large on the back wall of the fridge from the bottom to the top or are they relatively small coils on the bottom of the refrigerator behind the cardboard cover together with the compressor and the cooling fan next to it?

If there is a second type then remove the cover and clean the condenser and make sure the fan and compressor are running together.

Post your findings.

The model number you posted does not come up so it makes it much harder to provide most accurate advise.

Gene.
