Freezer door does not seal magnetically

Brand: GE
Model Number:GSHF6HGDBCBB
Main Symptom:Snow in the freezer
What happens & when: You can’t feel any resistance when you open the freezer door. I found snow in the freezer the other day when I opened it so I searched for an answer which led me to you. I ordered and received the new gasket. I soaked it hot water for a few minutes to make sure that it was pliable. I noticed when I put it up to the freezer door that it was about 1.5 inches longer and about a inch wider than the old one. I assumed that I have the right part and proceeded anyway, resetting it in the groove for the gasket to allow for the difference. Clearly, this did not work as I have the same issue as I had with the original part…snow. I placed a paper towel between the gasket and the door (before and after) the installation and it falls down with no resistance at all. Please help ASAP! If I need a different part, please note that the refrigerator is black so I need a black gasket. The Serial number # is GA412496. I would also like to know when it was made please

This is the part number for the freezer gasket in black. There is also a video showing how to install it. Once the gasket is installed, I would go back over the surface of the gasket with a hair dryer to remove any wrinkles and soften the surface of the gasket. All gaskets come with a small magnetic strip. It is not something that is really strong, but just enough to keep the gasket firm against the face of the refrigerator. If you are getting snow inside, there is definitely an air leak. WR24X20455 Freezer Door Gasket | Genuine Ge OEM In Stock

I was hoping to actually speak to someone about this… It would be easier if I didn’t have to keep the refrigerator running while replacing the gasket. But after doing so, I can see a 1/8 inch gap between the magnet and the housing. I’m forced to waste money on electricity until this issue is resolved. The only thing left I can think of is to uninstall the gasket. Soak it in hot water and try to reinstall it. I really wish I could speak to you about it.

In addition, your parts department sent me an additional gasket. I need to return at least one of them and I don’t have a return shipping label to my knowledge. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
