Freezer and Frig stop wprking

This is a side by side model One morning I noticed the frig was warmer then usual. Within a week the freezer stopped working in the upper 1/2( ice thawed but meats still were froze) , Their was a build up of frost on back wall of freezer. Defrosted completely and removed Ice chunks from behind back wall. Restarted and it worked great. Frost started appearing on back wall of freezer again in about 2 weeks the same situation occurs.

Most likely the problem is a faulty defrost system.

For more accurate advise we need the complete model number of the fridge.

Gene.

Sorry Gene The Model number is gsh22kgpc cc.

Thanks

Unplug the fridge.

Remove the wire from the J9 terminal on the main board. Measure the resistance between this wire and the neutral (orange) wire on the J7 connector (pin 9).

It should be about 22 Ohms.

If the reading is right then replace the main control board and the freezer thermistors.

If the reading is wrong then check for continuity the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. Replace the part with open circuit.

  • The part number for the main control board is AP3950129

  • The part number for the freezer thermistor is AP3185407

  • The part number for the defrost heater is AP3183868

  • The part number for the defrost thermostat is AP3884317

I am having a similar problem with my GSS22JEPACC GE side-by-side. Freezer is cold, not cold enough, fridge is warmer than it should be. I removed the back panel of the freezer and it’s totally frozen over. Would the steps you descibe above still apply for my model?

Thanks in advance, you guys rock!

Yes, you can use same instructions.

I have a GE22BGMDWW that is 7 years old. Heavy ice on back wall of freezer. Freezer temps are around 32-33 degrees and refrigerator temp is around 48-50. Suspect bad mother board or defrost heater or defrost thermostat. Does anyone have a way to test each so I am not ordering all three parts? currently defrosting the ice and will hopefully keep up for Thanksgiving - As I know i can’t get parts tomorrow.
