Hello! I suddenly have poor control over temps in my 9 year old, Professional 19 cubic foot Refrigerator only. I have cleaned the dust off the coils under the machine, and found a blocked drain tube which I have cleared. Temps tend to run cold. I try adjusting temps up, but end up with temps too warm, no happy medium. Looking at possibly replacing defrost thermostat, but totally unclear if this is the best next step…

Help!

There is a refrigerator thermistor that may be reading out of range. Fortunately, this can be checked with a simple resistance (ohms) test.

The thermistor is typically located near the top of the refrigerator compartment.

To test it:

  1. Disconnect power to the refrigerator.

  2. Disconnect and remove the thermistor.

  3. Measure its resistance (ohms) at various temperatures.

  4. Compare your readings to the attached thermistor resistance chart.

If the measured values do not match the chart, the thermistor will need to be replaced. If the readings are within specification, the main control board may be the cause of the issue.

Please let me know the test results, and I’ll be happy to help you determine the next step. If you need any additional assistance, just let me know.

Any better info on locating the thermistor? Nothing is visible, and I have not been able to locate it on any parts diagrams…

Thanks!

John

Hi, I got a response via E-mail that said the thermistor is located inside the rear wall. However, the walls of my frig appear to be one-piece, molded directly into the side walls…

Any idea how to access this part?

Thanks a million,

John

On the Frigidaire Professional FPRU19F8RFC all-refrigerator, the fresh-food temperature sensor (thermistor, part 297110400) is mounted in the air tower/evaporator cover area on the rear interior wall, not behind the control panel. It is clipped into the evaporator air duct assembly so it can sense compartment temperature.

To access it:

  1. Unplug the refrigerator.

  2. Remove the shelves and drawers.

  3. Remove the screws holding the rear evaporator cover (air tower) inside the refrigerator compartment.

  4. Pull the cover forward carefully.

  5. The thermistor is typically clipped into the air channel and connected by a two-wire harness leading back to the main wiring loom.

If you’re troubleshooting a temperature issue, the thermistor should measure approximately:

  • ~16.3 kΩ at 32°F (0°C)

  • ~5 kΩ at 77°F (25°C)

If you want, I can also pull up the cabinet diagram for the FPRU19F8RFC and point out the exact thermistor location on the exploded view.
