FisherPaykel Dryer Overheating (even hot when not running)

My Fisher Paykel dryer started overheating yesterday. When I went to get the clothes out they were so hot I could not touch them. I used a lint brush to clean it, but didn’t get much lint out, so I called my dad. He came over and checked the lint trap outside, and replaced the vent pipe on the back of the dryer. I have not been home all day, and I came in tonight and was going to do a load of laundry. I happened to touch the top of the dryer and it was very hot.(after not being on all day) I immediately unplugged it. What would cause the dryer to be hot when not in use?? I was going to order a new thermostat, but obviously the problem must be a little more serious. Any ideas???

Sounds like 1 of 2 things, either the heating element is shorted to ground or the Motor switch is stuck!!! Thats My 2 Ideas. check the heater first!!!
