I have a GE model TFX27FH side by side refridgerator flashing the error code “de” on the panel. The unit seems to be cooling correctly and is making ice etc..I have tried to clear the error code to no avail. The manual just instructs to call for service.

Your “DE” code, is an indication of the defrost system not drawing any current.
There are several components involved in the circuit:
The defrost heater(located behind the back wall of the freezer compartment).
The defrost thermostat(located behind the freezer back wall, and attached to the evaporator coil, or attached to the back wall just above the coils).
The defrost timer(located in the compressor compartment on the back of the unit.
Do you have a multi meter to test for proper circuits ?
