Brand: GE Model Number: JT3500SF6SS Main Symptom: F97 error continues after replacing a few parts and thoroughly cleaning What happens & when: Over the summer our double oven started to throw a F97 error. The workaround for several months was to reset the power at the main breaker and to only heat up one of the two ovens at a time. Then the night before Thanksgiving that work around stopped working.
Before I invest any more money, I want to know if it’s gonna make a difference I’ve already spent almost $200. The only other things I can think of are to replace gaskets on the doors, replace two sensors and potentially replace the control panel and the overlay. That would cost probably around $350; I’m on a really tight budget which is why I’m DIYing this
This came with an already used home that we bought and based on the serial number, I believe this double oven was manufactured in January 2018. So I just don’t know if it’s worth putting any more money into it.
HELP!!!
Error Code (if any): F97
Parts or tests already tried: Replaced lower cooling fan and blower motor; cleaned visible dust and grime/oil buildup.
Photos / video link: Before replacing blower motor.
At the cooling fan wire connection going to the main harness, is there a wire terminal sticking out of the connector like in this picture? If there is, will it push in?
Unsure. I, unfortunately, didn’t take pictures of that before reinstalling. I’d have to pull the whole double oven back out from the wall.
If I’m going to pull the oven back out, I’d like to have any other parts that may be required on hand. Like, should I go ahead and buy the sensors and replace?
The wall screws are now stripped from screwing/unscrewing them multiple times. So, I’m going to need to get screw extractor set and replacement screws before even attempting to check the component you asked about.
Apologies, this is just more than I bargained for.
If there is, try pushing the terminal in and see if it corrects the issue. If not, and if there is not a damaged wire, the oven control is likely the issue. Here is a link to the control information just in case. WB27X29603 Control Board | Genuine Ge OEM In Stock
Yes, I appreciate the link. I already have it sitting in my cart to purchase. I also understand, that I would need to also replace the overlay, if that is the case. Correct?
Really, what I’m trying to get to is it worth this additional monetary investment. I’ve seen multiple online postings commenting on GE products not being as reliable anymore and so many opinions on how to fix, but no guarantees.
Should I test the control panel voltage with a multimeter first before purchasing? Control panel and overlay are going to run over $250 with shipping. Or, will this all be a waste of time and money that I could have put towards a new oven?
For that specific error code, there is nothing left. Either there is a loose wire connection similar to the image, or the control is the failure. It is correct that replacing the overlay is easiest since it can potentially get damaged during the removal process. As far as replacing the parts go, it generally boils down to an individual preference along with factors such as age of the appliance and what has been replaced already.
I appreciate your insights and suggestions. Do you think I’d need to also replace sensors? I actually had the wrong control panel in my cart and this one is $90 more. Ugh!
