Gentlemen,
I am testing my running temps vs. specs on the tech sheet. I was running a timed load on medium @ which I should be at 140…twenty minutes in I was hovering around 115-120, at 38 minutes in running @ 131. My question is, how fast should this come up to 140? In your opinion would this possibly be a faulty thermistor? Many thanks for the help.

P.S. I have checked the moisture sensor at nauseum and seems to check out fine.

Tough Question!

Your 140 degrees has a plus or minus of 10 degrees, so technically you are within specs but just barely. Have you calibrated your temp testing equipment?

If you want to follow it up you can

  1. Test exhaust temp on other settings.

  2. Test the thermistor for resistance at various temps.

and post the resuslts and lets see what we have.

Unless you feel you are having a major problem with drying times or energy consumption I would tend to let it go and see if the situation stabilizes or deteriorates.

My thermal testing equipment is a grill thermo with a corded probe!!

I do have a Cen-Tech hand held IR gun I could cross check with…not sure

that either provude the accuracy required.

I will get to work on the other tests.

I haven’t run the other tests suggested yet…I went ahead and detached

from vent and ran a good size load that dried on med 40 minutes timed.

I can’t believe the vent could be the problem…seems like I get nice flow…

evidently not. My dryer vents 18" higher than my inlet then, it makes a 90 up

In the wall up to the roof…all this turning can’t be good???

Should I pay the 200 bucks to clean it???

You know you never said what caused you to do the tests, and now I am assuming your problem was a long drying time and you were testing temperature to see if that was the problem. I do not think it is.

If you were able to dry a large load in 40 minutes with the vent detached on medium heat, I think that is very satisfactory performance. If your drying times are long when the vent is hooked up to an exhust system that has turns and goes 90 degree up to your roof, then I think that is your problem. I very strongly recommend that you find a way to direct vent your dryer, and if not, substantially reduce the length of the venting. No matter what the specs or manufacturers say, these machines are meant to vent horizontally, or vertically with a relatively small rise. Remember, you are trying to push heavy, wet air out the venting system.

See what your options are for venting, and if you can reasonably and inexpensively have a shorter, more direct venting I think it will solve your problems.

I will look into getting this vent through a closet to an outside wall. Looks like I might be able to run it right below a lower shelf tucked up against the wall. I will still have a horizontal offset to get from the rear of the dryer to the wall but it has to be better than 2-90deg and 18 vertical feet. I will let you know if the wife approves:eek: …if not maybe a cleaning and some sort of in line booster fan:confused:

Sounds like a good idea.

You should tell your wife that this is a safety issue as well as a drying issue, and that in the extreme she might have to go to a solar drying system (that’s what we call a “clothes line”)
